Did you know BEST Safety Training still offers in-person training? While it’s true that we’ve replaced our traditional brick-and-mortar classrooms with virtual learning spaces, we can and will still come to your workplace to deliver onsite in-person training.
What’s the Difference between Classroom and Onsite Training?
The short answer is that there isn’t much difference. Both are in-person facilitator-led learning events. The difference is the location. Classroom training takes place in one BEST Safety Training’s classrooms, and anyone from any organization can attend. Onsite training takes place at YOUR workplace in a space provided by the organization, and only employees from your company attend. Sometimes onsite training happens in a traditional classroom-like room, but it can also take place in conference rooms, warehouses, or even the lunchroom! It may also take place at a third-party location, such as a rented hotel boardroom.
The Top Ten Benefits of On-Site Training
Benefit 1: Engagement
Some employees struggle to stay focused on a screen for a full day of training. Although many facilitators make attempts to keep virtual learning engaging, in-person training is usually more engaging. Trainers can implement strategies to course-correct to make sure their learners stay engaged throughout the course. Plus, onsite training is a great break from screens for those workers who spend all day using computers as part of their daily work.
Benefit 2: Hands On
For training that has a practical component, onsite training provides the opportunity to manipulate equipment, practice skills, and participate in real-world drills right in the environment in which they’ll be expected to perform tasks.
Benefit 3: Practical Evaluations
Some online training still requires a practical evaluation. When the training is onsite, evaluations and training may occur concurrently saving time and costs. This allows for more timely performance feedback, which is crucial to the development of new skills.
Benefit 4: Apply Learning Right Away
It’s been shown that adult learners retain information better when they can complete the tasks themselves, followed by immediate feedback. Onsite training allows for this. Training can happen using the machine, process, or equipment that is required, and workers can try it out right then and there, getting immediate feedback from a safety professional as opposed to being told about it online, and then trying it out several hours later and with that crucial feedback.
Benefit 5: Location, location, location
No need to travel. We come to you. All your employees must come to work anyway, so it’s not out of the way for them either.
Benefit 6: Specifics
When training is offered onsite with only workers from your company, questions and conversations can be much more specific. They might be specific to certain machine models, processes, chemical compounds, or work areas. Onsite training allows workers to address more specific concerns and questions.
Benefit 7: Flexible
When you attend classroom training or even distance learning events, they’re usually based on the trainer’s schedule – the classic 8:00am – 4:00pm, modelled after a traditional workday. But your organization is unique! When BEST Safety Training comes onsite, we can work with your schedule to make it more flexible and convenient for you. If your team works different shifts or has earlier start times, let us know. We will be happy to accommodate.
Benefit 8: Team Building
Being together builds comradery. While it’s not uncommon for teams to complete training online together, it’s the same as being physically together. Take advantage of the opportunity and maybe incorporate some morale-boosting activities such as games, contests, or even an outdoor socially distanced picnic lunch.
Benefit 9: Options
There are simply more options available onsite than in the virtual classroom. BEST Safety Training is still offering its entire catalogue of training titles onsite. We’ve had to limit what we’re offering in our virtual classroom.
Benefit 10: Safety
Contrary to popular belief, onsite training is very safe. Because you are not being mixed with people from other organizations, you are essentially training within your sanctioned work “cohorts.” All BEST Safety Training facilitators are vaccinated and follow all government regulations including mandatory masking and physical distancing. We will also be sure to comply with any specific safety measures you have in place at your organization.
